How ArborCare Resources is Helping Rebuild Idaho's Forests
SEEDS FOR TOMORROW
At ArborCare Resources, we’re always looking for ways to give back to our community and environment. Recently, we had the unique opportunity to partner with the United States Forest Service (USFS) to contribute to the reforestation efforts right here in Central Idaho. Over a span of several days, our team was hired to climb towering pine trees in the Sawtooth National Forest and collect cones filled with seeds that will be used to grow the next generation of healthy, resilient forests.
Why We Were Chosen
The USFS specifically selected our team because of our expertise in safely scaling these massive trees, some reaching up to 200 feet tall. But it’s more than just about climbing — the trees we collect cones from are carefully chosen for their superior genetics. These trees are tall, straight, and show resistance to pests and wind damage, ensuring that their offspring will help create forests that can withstand future environmental challenges.
Reforestation in Action
Over the course of our project, we collected 24 bushels of Ponderosa pinecones and nearly two bushels of Lodgepole pinecones. These cones are now headed to a nursery in Boise where they will be germinated. Next spring, the seedlings will be planted back in the Sawtooth National Forest as part of a long-term effort to preserve and restore our region’s forest ecosystems. This ensures that future generations can enjoy healthy forests that provide critical habitat, clean air, and beauty for all to experience.
Caring for Our Community
While our daily work at ArborCare Resources focuses on residential tree care, our mission goes far beyond that. We’re committed to the health of the environment and the future of Idaho’s landscapes. Whether it’s through reforestation efforts or ensuring the safety of trees in your backyard, we’re proud to protect the place we all call home.
By helping the USFS collect these valuable pinecones, we’re not just climbing trees — we’re planting the seeds for a healthier future.
